about

Charged up with confident sass and style, The Rondelles have managed to appropriate '50s malt shop rock n’ roll, CBGB-scene punk, and modern Britpop with such strategic ease you’d assume the band invented all of these sub-genres themselves. When they first burst on the scene in 1998, their delivery was so actualized it seemed impossible that they were just cutting their teeth. Beginning as juniors in High School and now in their early 20’s, The Rondelles’ indefatigable work ethic has honed their craft, elevating their songwriting and igniting even more relentless, frenetic energy than ever before. Shined Nickels and Loose Change balances on the axis from teens to twenties, as older and newer material coalesce with ease.
Shined Nickels and Loose Change is a pocketful of freshly minted tunes and assorted coins culled from various transactions. The Rondelles two 7” singles on K, “T.V. Zombie” (IPU99) and “Revenge!” (DBN111), are on CD for the first time and are joined by “The Fox” (Teenbeat Records 2000 sampler), an incredible version of Madonna’s “Like A Prayer”, (Teenbeat 1998 sampler), and a cover of The Shimmy Beckers’ “Cafeteria Rock”, which first appeared on the Rhino Records compilation I’ll Melt With You: Teen Bands vs. Teen Movies. Six brand new songs bookend the somewhat obscure older material and vividly illustrate that The Rondelles’ clever rock ‘n’ roll bricolage is more focused than ever. Ecstatically catchy pop melodies and Juliet’s lovely vocals direct infectious garage-y riffs upon riffs, threatening to curl up in your cranium where their hooks will be stuck for weeks. Oh, and live, this band simply ROCKS, high voltage delirium channeled through three pin-up conduits sparking a fantastic clap-along revolution.
